Chrystal Jensen

Citizen of the Year 2014

Congratulations to Chrystal Jensen who is the 2014 recipient of the Village of Barnwell Citizen of the Year Award.  Chrystal is a mother of 5 children and still makes time to continually be involved. Whether the project be at home, church or in the community, she can be found in the middle of the planning and/or carrying it through. She has served for many years on the Parent Associations at the Barnwell School and has always played a key part in raising funds for various projects. She worked diligently on the new playground at the school in organizing work and successfully applying for over $150,000 in grant revenue. She now has been seen, with her family, at the playground picking up garbage and ensuring that it stays clean and ready for use. The new Barnwell School Playground is a huge asset to the School and the Community. Thank you Chrystal for a job well done – one that the residents of this community will appreciate for years to come.

Pioneer Days 2014

Pioneer Days was a huge success!! It was a fun filled day from 7:00am to 10:30pm. There were over 90 participants in the 2km/5km fun run. This was followed by: a  hearty pancake breakfast, softball, a grand opening of the outdoor fitness park,  an amazing candy parade, bouncy houses, face painting, ice cream sundae eating contest, scooter competition,  supper in the park, entertainment, family dance and ice cream cones. Last, but definitely not least, we again enjoyed an amazing fireworks display.

Reinland Mennonite Church Development Application

The development as specified in Application No. 01/14 for a hall on 4th St W has been reviewed by the Municipal Planning Commission and was:

Refused for the following reasons:

  • Not a suitable development for this residential area
  • Large increase of traffic volume on narrow residentially designed roads provides increased safety risk for both vehicular and pedestrian traffic
  • Architectural design of building is not compatible with surrounding area
  • Unpaved parking lot creates environmental concern with dust filtering to surrounding neighbors
