Kent Bullock

Return to 2021 Barnwell Election Candidate Profiles

My wife and I have lived in Barnwell for 40 years. I grew up in Welling, Alberta on a small irrigation farm where I learned the value of hard work. Education was also very important to me and I enjoyed learning. After high school, I attended university and received a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering.  My wife and I have been married for 47 years and have 6 children and 29 grandchildren.  All of our children received their K through 9 education here in this community in the public school system. We have a strong belief in family and community and found this was a great community for our children to grow up in.

I began my career as Assistant Engineer for Eastern Irrigation District in Brooks Alberta. We moved here to Barnwell when I began working for Taber Irrigation District; first as the District Engineer for 8 years and then as General Manager of the district for 24 years until I retired. I was also the Assistant Manager of Irrican Power for 21 years. I have gained invaluable knowledge while serving on many boards: Canadian Water Resources Association as Director for 32 years, Director of Alberta Irrigation Projects Association for 24 years, and served on the Taber Public School Board for 8 years. I have been involved with and consulted on many of the infrastructure projects that have been built within the village including some planning and water supply studies.

I have served on Barnwell Council for the past 4 years. It has been my privilege to serve on the Municipal Planning Commission for 4 years where I have heard the voice of our residents and facilitated change where possible and can see real opportunity for the future.

I feel that one of the biggest issues facing Barnwell right now is the facilitation of sustainable growth within the village. I think that economic growth will be important to the village if we want to see continued growth. I think that land use planning will be essential to make this happen. I have an interest in the growth and governance of the village and feel that I have the education and experience that would be helpful. I see Barnwell having a strong role in the continuing development of the agri-food corridor. I think it is essential that council be open and honest with the residence of the village about making decisions that impact the residents of the village.

In addition to my strong engineering and analytical capacity, I bring to council financial responsibility, equality, integrity, and transparency. Being open minded and interested in different perspectives, I have the ability to work well with the other successful candidates and with administration.

So please vote for Kent Bullock on October 18th.
