New Recycling Pick-up in Barnwell

Along with the changes to garbage pick-up, we are also changing the pick-up day for recycling as well. You will see the recycle trucks out in the village every Friday but they will be picking up half the village each week.

Starting on September 3rd, 2021 pick up will be done on the south side of the village with the old highway being the dividing line. The north side of the village will be picked up on September 10th, 2021 and this will continue alternating each week.

You will find the map for recycling below. You will also receive a calendar indicating which half of the village will have recycle pick-up on which week.

New Garbage Cart System in Barnwell

We are changing things for weekly garbage pick-up! By the end of August or first few days of September, all Barnwell residents will be receiving a garbage cart that belongs with the property. This is what you will use to roll out your garbage to the curb for pick-up.

Pick-up will be every Friday, roll your cart out in the morning and roll it back in the afternoon. If a holiday lands on Friday, garbage pick up will be the next business day.

These bins are for household garbage only!

Do not put any of the following items in your cart: construction/demolition materials, household hazardous wastes, animal carcasses or any other harmful or hazardous items.

If you have any questions regarding garbage pick-up, please call the office at 403-223-4018.

Barnwell Days 2021 Update

We are so excited to be hosting Barnwell Days again this year and have an event and opportunity to Reunite our Community. A few things to note, there was an oversight on the website initially that indicated that the race and the food trucks were free, and they are not. The race is $10 for 15 and older and $5 for 14 and younger. The Food trucks will have their own pricing.

Almost all the events will be at Willow Park this year except for the Craft Fair and the Parade.

For more information on the schedule or events, please visit our website on the events page.

Things you will need to remember:

Bring your camp chairs so you have somewhere to sit, we will have some tables and chairs available but likely not enough for everyone and having your own chair allows you to find a spot in the shade, it’s going to be hot!

Make sure you have your water bottle with you, there will be drinks for purchase on Saturday with the food trucks but no water bottles supplied.

Also, make sure you bring cash/debit for the food trucks.

The Village will have a table at the craft fair on Saturday to show you what we have been working on as an expansion of Ken Anderson Park, stop by our table to check it out!

Barnwell Day t-shirts will be available for purchase at our table as well for $20 – cash only.

The Village of Barnwell and the Municipal District of Taber Invite you to the Grand Opening of the MD Regional Fire Station located in the Village of Barnwell

Thursday, July 19, 2018 • 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. • Ribbon Cutting at 6 p.m.

The Village of Barnwell completed construction of the Barnwell Fire Station in early 2018 and ‘Station 7’ became operational on February 1, 2018.

The community of Barnwell and Station 7 are part of the MD of Taber Regional Fire Service which provides fire and rescue services to the Village of Barnwell, the Town of Vauxhall and the Municipal District of Taber. The MDT Regional Fire Service has a compliment of near 125 professionally trained volunteer firefighters and a fleet of modern and well equipped response vehicles ready to answer a call for fire or rescue services in our region.

The Municipal District of Taber Regional Fire Services is seeking motivated and committed individuals who live and work within our communities to join our dedicated Volunteer Firefighters.

We are seeking both men and women candidates who:

  • Are available to respond during the day time or at night time
  • Are interested in learning new skills including Standard First Aid and CPR certificate and fire fighter certifications.
  • Reside or work within close proximity of your local Fire Department and must be able to attend meetings and training courses.

  • School Tours
  • Fire Prevention Week (October)
  • Volunteer Fire Fighter Week (May)
  • Fundraising for worthy community

The Junior Firefighter Program is a training program for young men and women, ages 16 -18, interested in serving their community and preparing to become active Firefighters upon reaching the age of 18. At age 18, the Junior Firefighter may be eligible to switch over to full volunteer member status. The best way to see what it’s like to be a volunteer firefighter is to hear the perspectives of people who do it each day. Meet a few folks who serve their community in this unique way and learn what their work is really like. Being a volunteer firefighter is about a lot more than just putting out fires. It’s an opportunity to learn cutting edge skills that prepare you to help members of your community when they need it most.

Being a volunteer firefighter is not about what you look like, what degree you have, or where you come from. It is about one thing: heart. Do you have what it takes to serve your community?
